SkyTrak works through sensors that you place on the ground opposite the golfer. These keep track of the position of the ball when you hit it, providing enough data to simulate its trajectory into a simulation.

It comes with a free driving range app, but if you want to play rounds of virtual golf and get advice on how to improve using your data, you’ll need to pay their yearly subscription of $135.

To work, you need to connect the SkyTrak to a computer with internet access or a data plan. It’ll send the data it collects to the smartphone, tablet, or other computer and shows a simulation of where the ball would go in the virtual world. There are driving ranges and even entire courses your can use.

SkyTrak works with or without a projector. If you don’t use a projector, you’ll have to look at your device’s screen to see the results. However, if you’re looking for one of the easiest setups, all you need is your smartphone, and you can even keep track of your shots at a driving range or similar.

Battery life on the SkyTrak is about five hours, which is excellent compared to similar models, such as the Mevo+’s two hours.

The skills assessment feature allows you to benchmark your performance and test it regularly to see how you’ve improved. You can monitor this using different clubs and track how you’re improving.

This works well with the bag mapping feature, which gives you a map of your distances with different clubs.

In terms of data storage, SkyTrak syncs your practice data with the cloud using the Sky Golf 360 Cloud feature, making it simple and easy to keep track of your data.

There are a few other add-ons you might want to consider, such as the SkyTrak Protective Case, which protects the (fairly robust) launch monitor from nasty accidents.

If you’re interested in setting up a DIY simulator room in your garage or similar, you’ll need to add a good mat, a high-end simulator cage, and a great projector. Altogether, it can be done for less than $5,000, which is a serious investment but much less than most of the pro set-ups.

Skytrak is a launch monitor with accompanying software for the recreational player. 

It tracks data on your golf ball only. Therefore, compared to other launch monitors, it is geared more towards golf enthusiasts than professionals. Launch monitors like Trackman and Foresight offer a much larger array of data, but most of it is too specialized to be useful to your average golfer.

SkyTrak offers information on your ball flight, carry distances, and spin rate. That should be plenty for most golfers in terms of feedback.

The realism of the simulation options is fantastic. For example, you can change environmental settings such as elevation and temperature to match countless playing conditions. But the ability to play complete courses with this level of accuracy is amazing – it would have been out of reach years ago unless you spent $30k+ on a professional rig.

The accuracy of the SkyTrak is almost on par with the GC2 from Foresight Sports, whose monitors range from $8,000 to $16,000. !

When tested against the other major brands, the accuracy is reasonably close to theirs when both are correctly calibrated. The software it runs has great graphics and was fairly easy to use.  Overall, we strongly recommend the Skytrak.
